http://biomedicine.gu.se The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 37 000 students and 6 000 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future. The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of microorganisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.
Postdoctoral fellow in Development of the adaptive immune system, inflammation and bone metabolism
Experimental research on the development of the human acquired immune system and immunological regulation of bone metabolism, Department of Infectious Diseases, Institute of Biomedicine, University of Gothenburg. Our research group studies the role of the immune system in development of allergy and inflammatory bowel disease. We are now in need of a postdoc with expertise in flow cytometry for studies of human immune development in relation to the risk of development of allergy and inflammatory bowel disease, as well as knowledge regarding how bone metabolism is regulated by inflammation in such patients. Job assignments: Analyze blood samples from infants and adults by flow cytometry with focus on B and T lymphocyte maturation markers. Anlayze biomarkers of bone metabolism in relation to immune maturation and inflammatory markers in young patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Perform statistical calculations, write reports and scientific manuscripts. Collaborate with clinicians, nurses, laboratory staff and other researchers involved in the different clinical studies.
Eligibility: An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at Göteborg University. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application. The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. Assessment: A PhD in the field of immunology with profound knowledge regarding B and T lymphocyte phenotypes. Extensive experience from flow cytometric analysis is required and should be documented in the form of scientific papers. Knowledge regarding bone metabolism and experience regarding analysis of bone metabolism biomarkers will be regarded as a strong merit. We expect the candidate to be skilful, organized and flexible with high skills in cooperation with staff and colleagues. Capacity to work independently and in a structured way is of importance. Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
