Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.
A post-doctoral research position is available to study treatment resistance mechanisms of malignant lymphomas in the Thoren lab at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center (SCC), Department of Biomedicine at University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
Subject area
cancer biology/immunology
Subject area description
In recent years, work from us and others have shed light on novel aspects of the multi-faceted interplay between NK cells and other immune cells in different types of acute and chronic leukemias. We have also recently demonstrated that different groups of genes and proteins are associated with resistance to immunochemotherapy in aggressive B cell lymphomas. This project aims at characterizing mechanisms underlying therapy resistance with a distinct focus on expression patterns of ribosomal and actin-related genes/proteins and the NK cell repertoire.
Job assignments
The project is a collaboration between the clinical hematology group of P-O Andersson and the Thoren lab at SCC. The successful candidate will characterize how sensitivity to immunochemotherapy is affected by expression levels of ribosomal and actin-related proteins and different subtypes of NK cells contribute to effector responses. Methods that will be used include flow cytometry, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, RNA-sequencing, proteomics and advanced bioinformatics.
Eligibility
An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at University of Gothenburg. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application.
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Assessment
The ideal candidate would have a PhD in molecular cell biology/immunology with a strong track record including experience in cell culture, gene and protein regulation using CRISPR/Cas9, flow cytometry, RNA-sequencing and/or proteomics and bioinformatics competence. The candidate should be able to carry out projects independently and is expected to collaborate with other members of the laboratory and external collaborators. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Employment
The employment is full time and temporary, two years, with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine.
