hela Sverige Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees due to retirement among our current staff and an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!
The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology conducts research and offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Research, the predominant activity, is often done in collaboration with corporate and international partners. We are one of the university's largest, oldest and most well known departments, encompassing five interacting scientific fields: biology, chemistry, material physics, applied physics and theory and modelling.

Hereby advertises a position as
Postdoctor in Materials Science (within a Swedish-German research collaboration and part of the Competence Centre FunMat-II)
formally based at Nanostructured Materials at the Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (IFM)
Duties
The Swedish-German research collaboration is funded through the Röntgen-Ångström cluster (RÅC). RÅC aims to strengthen research at synchrotron and neutron radiation sources in the fields of Materials Science and Structural Biology. LiU together with Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Petra III, and industrial partners work together on a project where x-ray synchrotron radiation is used to study metal cutting in operandi.
FunMat-II is a Competence Centre funded by VINNOVA (the Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems) in materials science and surface engineering at Linköping University with partners at Uppsala University, the research institute Swerea KIMAB, and numerous Swedish and international industry partners. At Linköping University, the Divisions of Nanostructured Materials, Thin Film Physics, and Theory and Modeling participate.
As a member of Nanostructured Materials you will conduct application inspired fundamental research on materials synthesis and materials behavior. The work is primarily experimental. You will be part of a larger research team that is doing collaborative research with team members from Linköping university and industrial companies that are partners of the competence center FunMat-II. You will be part of one or several research projects, which are headed by a senior researcher and a steering group.
The position comprises construction and use of experimental setups to characterize changes in the coating protecting the cutting tool insert during cutting operation by WAXS and SAXS. You will also be using an existing setup to study growth of coatings by x-ray techniques. You will be working in a team with experienced researchers in this field as well as with PhD-students.
A Postdoc will essentially carry out research. The position may also involve teaching, but during no more than a fifth of work time.
Qualifications
The position requires a doctorate or an equivalent degree from a foreign university. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the expiration date of the application.
The candidate for the position should have substantial experience in using synchrotron radiation facilities for diffraction experiments in materials science research. Experience in constructing experimental equipment is considered a merit.
Appointment time
Two years.
Starting date
By agreement/as soon as possible.
Salary
The University applies individual salary scales adapted to the experience of the employee and to the labour market.
