Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.
Your team
SoftiMAX is a soft X-ray beamline focussed on spectro-microscopy and coherent imaging techniques, with 2 branch lines.
The first branch delivers a nanoprobe beam for Scanning Transmission X-ray Microscopy (STXM) and ptychography measurements, catering to many research fields including environmental science, electrochemistry & catalysis, life sciences and magnetism. The second branch has a stronger focus on exploring coherence, with diffraction imaging, holography and x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS). The SoftiMAX team currently consists of 3 permanent staff and a shared technician.
Your role
We are looking for a postdoc with a background in magnetic materials and (soft) x-ray techniques, like XMCD or magnetic X-ray imaging, plus acumen in the data analysis thereof, to complement the team. Together with the team you will help to support external (magnetic) users at the beamline and expand and promote the available techniques and sample environments. You are strongly encouraged to take an active role in utilizing the unique capabilities of the beamline and its instruments for your own projects and collaborations within science and/or method development.
Main work tasks
- You are expected to define & pursue your own research projects - centred around the techniques available at SoftiMAX - publish the results and present them at conferences
- You will help maintain and develop the beamline, the end-station and data processing tools, as part of the SoftiMAX team.
- You will take a share in the support of users during the planning, setup, and execution of their experiments, and participate in the development of eg. user sample environments or data analysis tools
To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications
- PhD in natural sciences in a subject relevant to SoftiMAX
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and hands on experience with, using (soft) X-ray imaging/spectroscopy techniques, preferably STXM and/or ptychography
- Background in magnetic material research
- You have a good track record of published articles in peer reviewed journals highlighting findings from your research and experimental activities
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively
- Good command of English, good communication and team working skills
Qualifications below are seen as merits
- Good Python programming skills, working knowledge of collaborative software development tools
- Hands on experience in constructing and commissioning sample environments and bringing such projects to a successful conclusion
- Experience in providing user support
As a person you are interested in interdisciplinary and collaborative research, curious and inquisitive, service minded, and you are able to work effectively with people from very diverse backgrounds.
