Information about the research
The national competence centre CAM2 (Centre for Additive Manufacturing - Metal) provides a unique possibility for academy-industry co-operation. The centre focuses on material development for powder-based metal AM technologies covering the whole AM chain, starting from the base powder through the dedicated AM process development, tailored post-AM treatment to the final component. The centre is hosted by the Division of Materials and Manufacture at Department of Industrial and Materials Science. The division addresses core research questions related to powder-based metal additive manufacturing, powder technology, surface engineering, 2D-materials like graphene, surface coatings, nanomaterials, metal cutting and grinding.
As part of a number of research areas which have been launched and developed, we take the next steps to further develop multi-material sinter-based additive manufacturing. Today, the AM group at the division is among the largest groups in AM across Europe with senior researchers, post-docs and PhD students. Recently, group received funding through WISE (Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability) to develop the sustainable multi-material additive manufacturing as part of WISE Research Technology Platform within WISE Additive.
We are a young and highly motivated research group working together and supporting each other to advance metal AM in critical areas for this technology advancement. Now we are seeking a post-doctoral researchers with interest in sinter-based metal additive manufacturing, in particular high-resolution metal, metal/metal and metal/ceramic composites, with special focus on multi-material sintering process development and simulation.
Information about the division and the department
The main competences at the Department of Industrial and Materials Science are found in the areas of: Human-Technology Interaction | Form and Function | Modeling and Simulation | Product Development | Materials | Production and in the interaction between these areas. The research focuses on the development of the industrial process, from need to finished product while creating added value. To combine skills throughout the whole chain distinguishes the department both nationally and internationally. Here we gather internationally prominent researchers, in dynamic and outstanding research environments, as well as in national and international research networks.
Equality between women and men is a prerequisite for Chalmers to be a good place to work and study, and for us to develop as a technical university. One of the department's primary objectives is to contribute to Chalmers' overall gender equality with particular emphasis on Chalmers' fundamental values - quality, openness, inclusion, respect, diversity.
Major responsibilities
The position is connected to the broad AM activities within Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing (PMAM) group at Chalmers to directly support development and implementation of the WISE Research Technology Platform at Chalmers, focusing on multi-material sinter-based AM. PMAM is also the host of the competence centre CAM2 | Centre for Additive Manufacture - Metal that is focused on material and process development for powder-based metal AM. CAM2 developed 15 novel AM materials for powder-based metal AM over last 5 years in close collaboration with >30 industrial partners. Your major responsibility as a postdoc is to perform your own research as part of the research group.
The position involves coordinating specific research projects in the frame of WISE Additive at Chalmers, collaborating within academia, industry and with society at large. The position may also include teaching bachelor's and master's courses as well as supervising academic and industrial users of the sinter-based infrastructure. You will be working with the sintering process development and simulation of the sintering process focusing on a variety of sinter-based technologies (metal binder jetting, lithography-based metal additive manufacturing, and DLP of metal/ceramic multi-materials) as well as sintering simulations to assure necessary material integrity and geometrical tolerances, using state-of-the-art sinter-based multi-metal AM lab at the host division. The position offers great opportunities for future research duties within academia as well as industry or the public sector.
Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a PhD in materials science, material mechanics and/or production engineering, and the degree should generally not be older than three years. Exceptions from the 3-year limit can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service*. Priority will be given to candidates with a relevant background in sinter-based metal additive manufacturing and sintering simulation.
Skills in simulation of sintering process, sintering process development and sinter-based metal AM, materials characterisation, inorganic chemistry, microscopy, etc., are considered as merits. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching and project management, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not required and Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
• The date shown in your doctoral degree certificate is the date we use, as this is the date you have met all requirements for the doctoral degree.
Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years.
