Welcome to Linnaeus University! A place for knowledge, ideas and development. For growth potential and a belief in the future. In Småland and in the world.

Description of the project and duties
The aim of this postdoc project is to investigate modifications in the marine environment (mostly below the seafloor) caused by global warming. The postdoc will be mostly dedicated, but not exclusively, to two ongoing projects at the Department of Biology and Environmental Science at Linnaeus University: (1) Impact of climate change in marine sediments of the Baltic Sea, notably changes in methanogenesis and sulphate reduction processes; and (2) Destabilization of gas hydrate reservoirs in marine sediments owing to ocean warming and massive release of methane to sediments and oceans. The work will involve practical activities such as field work at the sea, but also laboratory work (experiments and analyses) and numerical modelling.

Research areas: Marine geology and geochemistry.

Qualification requirements
We look for exceptional candidates with a PhD degree in a subject area of relevance for the project (e.g., geosciences, marine geology, geochemistry, marine geochemistry, biogeochemistry) and who is prepared for innovative developments of current lines of research. In addition, the candidate must have a high proficiency in written and spoken English, be able to solve difficult problems, and have the ability to work independently as well as interact well in a research group.

Other assessment grounds
Experience in fieldwork activities (preferentially at the sea) and laboratory (geochemistry) are important assets. Experience with numerical modelling of natural systems will be an advantage, but not crucial.
