https://www.ri.se/sics Position Description
RISE SICS in the city of Västerås offers this PhD position within the scope of the XIVT (eXcellence in Variant Testing) European project. The position has a specialization in Software Testing, which entails study of basic theory and methodology for testing software. The main goal in the XIVT project is to develop tailored and optimized solutions for testing of product variants and variant-intensive industrial systems, in particular for railway propulsion control systems. To achieve this goal, application and combination of different principles and techniques such as model-based test generation, machine learning and knowledge-based processing, test optimization, and change impact analysis are considered in the project.
As a PhD student in this project, you will be involved in research and development of effective and efficient software testing methods in close collaboration with industrial partners. The focus of this position will be mainly on investigating and developing model-based techniques for testing of product baselines and their variants.
The project will be performed in close cooperation with other partners in the project, which include large industries, research institutes and universities, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises from both Sweden and the EU. Place of employment is at RISE SICS Västerås. The doctoral program will be hosted by Mälardalen University, campus Västerås.

* A deep interest in software testing and development
* Knowledge in model-based development/testing, particularly using Matlab Simulink
* The ability to work as part of a team in collaborative research projects and also work independently,
* A curious, goal-oriented, flexible, ambitious, and communicative personality,
* Documented skill in presenting and documenting your work in English; i.e. to describe the problem, the solution and the approach in an understandable manner (knowing Swedish can be a merit),
* Interest in applied research and developing methods and bringing them into different application areas.
General knowledge in software testing (in particular test case prioritization and test automation), being familiar with extra-functional (non-functional) properties, as well as having industry experience in software testing will be an advantage. The personal characteristics will be emphasized in the selection of the right candidate.
