Work description

According to the Higher Education Ordinance, a person appointed to a PhD studentship should primarily devote himself/herself to his/her studies, with a PhD degree as the goal. A PhD student may work, however, to a limited extent with education and administration. However, before a PhD degree has been awarded, duties of this kind may not comprise more than 20% of a full-time post.

Software is the predominant technology today; almost everything we do relies directly or indirectly on software. To ensure trustworthy and sustainable software-intensive systems that can operate in uncertain and continuously evolving environments, the software systems and the way we engineer them must become smarter, continuously adapt and learn to improve their capabilities and utility throughout their lifetime.

The "Engineering Resilient Systems" (EReS) research group investigates software engineering methods and tools for architecting, modeling, analyzing, developing, validating, and operating large-scale complex systems.

The PhD position's research objective is how to model and simulate Smarter Systems that are at the same time flexible and dynamic, as well as resilient, encompassing availability, safety, reliability, performability, sustainability. Specifically, he/she will propose a set of ad-hoc methods and tools for modeling, simulating, and validating Smarter Systems.

The PhD student will actively participate in research and teaching activities at the Department and the research group. More information about the doctoral studies in Computer and Information Sciences, which includes Media Technology, can be found at:
