Do you want to be a pioneer in building the future's cutting equipment? We offer a unique opportunity to conduct an industrial PhD student education at Husqvarna Group in cooperation with Linköping University. While you are part of a core team in product development at Husqvarna, you will explore and break new ground in the area of coatings for cutting equipment.
About the assignment
In this position, you will translate the latest research into future Husqvarna products. The challenge of the research project is to understand every detail of the wear mechanisms in order to develop new hard coatings that can improve the wear resistance of the cutting equipment.
As an industrial PhD student you will be a part of the Thin Film Physics research group at Linköping University while contributing to product development of Husqvarna's cutting equipment. You will have supervisors at both the University and Husqvarna Group.
You will be employed by Husqvarna Group and report to one of our Managers for Primary, Concepts & Features. Your location of employment will be in Huskvarna, but the major part of the industrial PhD studies will be performed at Linköping University.

Your profile
Qualifications
• We are looking for a MSc in Materials Science / Engineering or Physics or Materials Chemistry in the field of hard coatings and wear of hard coatings.
• It is an advantage if you have a few years of experience in thin film technology, preferably PVD and there preferably magnetron sputtering or arc deposition.
• Experience from analysis of microstructure and mechanical properties of thin films is a further advantage as well as knowledge in tribology and wear.
• Thin film characterization by techniques such as XRD, SEM, TEM or XPS as well as vacuum science are particularly meriting given the work description.
• Good command of written English is mandatory. Ability to write error-free and easy-to-read texts on publication level in international scientific journals.
• Ability to speak and present to audiences that consist both of people that know the field and also those that are new to the field.

As a person you are curious, creative and problem-solving, have a large internal drive and take own initiatives. The desire to learn is strong, and you possess strong analytical and logical skills, so from theory and performed activities you can transfer your conclusions into concrete facts and practical work. You like to work both independently and in a group, and when working in a group you can put prestige aside and focus on problem solving.
