This position is located at the Molecular Cell Biology Unit at the Department of Biology with the aim of completing a PhD-education.
Within the project, the postgraduate student will study genetically modified plants grown and treated under defined conditions, using cellular and molecular biology methods, including specific and global analysis of individual nucleic acids, proteins and metabolites. The project aims to examine the central redox metabolism (esp. nicotinamide-nucleotide) interaction with, and relevance for, plant defence against external biotic and abiotic stresses. Of particular interest are stresses, which was previously shown to associate with nicotinamide nucleotide redox homeostasis, and the importance of dynamic changes in the plant environment.
Eligibility/Entry Requirements
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.
Special eligibility requirements include a main proportion of cell biology, molecular biology or biochemistry in the undergraduate education.
Education in plant biology/plant physiology is meriting. Previous experience of practical work concerning plants (esp. transgenic plants) or specific analysis of RNA and/or proteins, as well as bioinformatic data analysis is desirable. Important personal qualities include creativity, curiosity, accuracy and intellectual ability to handle complex information, as well as to work both independently and in groups with people from other countries and scientific disciplines. Ability to spoken and written English is very meritorious. Emphasis is placed on the implementation of and report from previous projects.
Basis of Assessment
The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.
