About the role
As Material Quality Assurance Engineer in our Quality CoE (Center of Excellence) team, you will play a central role in managing and developing how we assure the quality of direct materials such as packaging material and ingredients, across all Swedish Match production sites.
You'll focus on shaping and aligning material quality processes, specifications and material deviations, ensuring that materials consistently meet requirements and support both product performance and manufacturing efficiency. While your colleague focuses on upstream supplier engagement, your scope lies closer to the production stage - supporting factory teams and ensuring a seamless quality interface between suppliers and operations.
This is a central role based at our office in Gothenburg, reporting to the Senior Manager Quality. The position includes some travel, primarily within Sweden and Europe.
Your main responsibilities
• Lead, plan, organize and control material quality and specification activities to provide Operations and other relevant departments with accurate and timely support across all factories
• Ensure strong partnerships with suppliers, focusing on collaboration and transparent information sharing to secure high-quality direct materials (DIMs) and improve their performance, impact on product quality, production efficiency and cost
• Monitor and assess material- and supplier performance regularly, involving key suppliers where needed and initiating improvement actions in case of performance deviations
• Ensure that non-conformities (NCs) are raised, investigated and managed without delay, and that materials are blocked when necessary. Approve or reject NCs escalated to this role and ensure appropriate corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) are identified, prioritized and followed through
• Review and approve CAPAs related to DIMs and drive quality improvement opportunities in collaboration with stakeholders
• Support the business in internal and supplier quality audits concerning direct materials
About you
To succeed in this role, you are structured, analytical, and confident in driving quality topics across multiple functions and stakeholders. You combine a hands-on mindset with a strategic understanding of how materials affect product quality, efficiency, and cost. You enjoy translating technical insights into tangible improvements and taking pride in building robust systems that create long-term value.
You are comfortable navigating between factory floors and cross-functional meetings, and you know how to build trust through clear communication and collaboration. You thrive in an international environment and are motivated by the opportunity to help shape global standards and routines.
We believe you have:
• A university degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science or equivalent
• At least 2 years of experience in material quality assurance, ideally within FMCG, food, packaging, or pharmaceutical industries
• Familiarity with working across multiple production sites or in a centralized quality function
• Solid knowledge of ISO 9001 and QMS
• Experience with NC, root cause analysis (RCA), and CAPA processes
• A structured way of working and the ability to lead and follow up on improvement actions
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken, Swedish is considered a strong advantage.
It is considered a strong advantage if you also have:
• Experience working in an international group-level or multi-site organization
• Background in direct materials or packaging materials
