Formal qualifications and/or relevant experience in programme management and experience in development and peace building, including field experience, are essential. Experience in resource mobilisation and research is also desirable.
Position within the organisation
• Supervisor: Programme Director
• Staff supervised: May supervise an intern and/or consultants.
Key Responsibilities
• Liaison between Sudan, Kenya and Somalia programmes and Head office, including regular reporting to the Programme Director and participation to PU and staff meetings.
• Work with the Nairobi team and partners to design innovative programmes/projects that align with LPI's strategy for Sudan, Kenya and Somalia programmes.
• Take a lead role in writing grant applications to various donors, engage in fundraising and support donor reporting.
• Support the LPI teams and partners in designing and conducting research (from conceptualisation to development of research & analysis tools), analysis and interpretation of findings, writing/editing of the research product, and presenting the results through written and oral means, both in the Nairobi office, but also in other LPI offices.
• Contribute to all aspects of the programme/project cycle including conceptualization and planning, implementation, documentation, monitoring, evaluation and learning in LPI's Sudan, Somalia and Kenya programmes. The specific decision-making structure is outlined in the grants management policy.
• Contribute to human resource development and institutional capacity building.
• Represent LPI as needed at both internal and external meetings, communities of practice, international fora and events.
• Undertake other tasks as assigned after a consultation process with both line managers.
The following qualifications are required
• Master's degree in peace and conflict research, conflict management, political science or other relevant field.
• At least three, preferably five years' experience of working with peacebuilding/conflict transformation theory and practice, preferably with field experience.
• Excellent fundraising skills including proposal development and report writing skills.
• Excellent research skills and good knowledge of research methods (quantitative and qualitative) with a strong focus on participatory research. Experience in supporting others in planning and conducting research and preparation of research reports.
• Knowledge of Grant management and Donor relations, especially with Sida, EU, USAID, DFID and other institutional donors.
• Good knowledge of donor rules and regulations (USAID, Sida, DFID, EU and others).
• Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility and ability to work as part of a team and under stress.
• Good computer literacy in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Office 365 and preferably SPSS.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English. Working knowledge of French, Swedish, Arabic or Swahili is considered an asset.
• Willingness and ability to travel, sometimes with short notice.

The head office based in Uppsala, Sweden, supervises programmes in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and Sudan, as well as a regional programme at the Horn of Africa.
