hela Sverige The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Junior Engineer in the Engineering & Integration Support (EIS) Division.
Description of main responsibilities
The Mechanical & Repair Laboratory (EIS-1 Lab) is to develop for and provide to ESS specific engineering solutions and processes combining mechanical engineering & technology, fabrication and material measurements & testing. The mandate of the EIS-1 Lab includes the development and implementation of engineering technology, which is essential for monitoring, testing, maintenance and repair of the ESS machines.
The tasks of this project include but are not limited to:
• Establishing measurement validation methodology including test stand, sample geometry, and testing parameters
• Data Acquisition and post-experiment analysis
• Design of samples, sample holders and testing devices by use of lab infrastructure as well as tooling to produce and form the material samples and components
• Implementation of a repeatable sample-level measurement test for performing the evaluation with the developed methodology
• Conducting Non Destructive Test (NDT) to acquire, examine and analyze the UT spectra of samples in lab environment and machine operation conditions
• Development of a material database for material properties
• FEA simulations of materials properties and behavior under test conditions
• Evaluating the properties, performance and repetition of the UT measurements input
• Perform Market Surveys and communication with suppliers for upgrading/expanding the infrastructure of the EIS-1 Lab
• Publish experimental results and scientific papers
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials engineering, applied physics or closely related fields. Scientific papers and citations on relevant experimental work as well as mechanical testing, material testing and relevant lab work during Bachelor's or Master's theses will be considered as an asset. Python programming skills are considered an asset as well.
Focus will be given to candidates with entry level experience in the laboratory testing field. This is a rather junior position with potential for increasing responsibility.
Excellent oral and written English skills are vital. It is also important that the candidate has good reporting and presentation skills and can meet deadlines. To perform well in this position, the candidate should be able to adapt to different work environments and have a flexible approach to stakeholders.

Duration & Location
The position is a fixed term position of 12 months, with possibility for extension. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
