The Game Programming Specialist is responsible for acting as the primary technical point of contact between our game development teams, our producers, and the central technology department. The Game Programming Specialist acts as the producer/project manager's right hand in technical questions by reviewing and providing feedback on the technical design for our games and social feature integrations.
The Game Programming Specialist will also help the game development teams understand the technical capabilities of the Paradox Publishing platform, as well as helping the central technology department understand the needs, roadmap, issues, and strategic objectives of the game teams. As the game development teams integrate the Publishing Platform, this role is also responsible, together with Developer Relationship specialists, for maintaining those relationships to ensure the long term success of Paradox.
Key Responsibilities
You are going to work with developers, producers, and game designers on individual titles to understand their game design and resulting tech needs. You are also going to work with producers in estimation, risk assessment and mitigation of technical tasks for all game projects and collaborate with them to establish long term feature schedules, milestone definitions and goals.
You will be a trusted point of contact for game teams in all Publishing Platform-related matters and map game needs to the Paradox Platform and escalate gaps/feature requests. You will also represent the central technology department in product team meetings where requested
You are responsible for managing and storing source code and other technical assets from game teams and provide technical support to both developers, producers and Published Application Managers. You will also be responsible for highlighting gaps in game designs that are not making effective use of the Publishing Platform or are lacking key integration points into the Paradox ecosystem as well as identify and implement solutions that would improve the workflow of producers and studios within the company.
Additional responsibilities varying by individual
Gather and visualize key information for game projects to the rest of the central technology department (i.e. key contacts, game SKUs/platforms, milestone dates, usage projections, committed tech adoptions, MAU forecast)
Guide game teams through Publishing Platform onboarding flows
Prepare source code and technical assets to be reviewed by third-parties (legacy revivals, ports to different platforms, etc)
Attend technical events and do internal seminars to spread the knowledge within the organisation
Requirements
Must have:
Extensive Game Programming Experience
Knowledge of at least one of the main engines (Unity or Unreal). Unity is preferred since most of our projects are on Unity currently
Source-Code Management Experience in a server level ( you know how to create and import SVN, Perforce, Git, etc)
Experience estimating tasks and tracking risks
Experience with either C++ or C# (preferably both)
Good to have:
Design knowledge
UI/UX Knowledge
Working in the games industry
Console experience, more specifically notion of TRCs (Sony) and XRs(Microsoft)
