Full Professor in Production Technology with emphasis on Metal Cutting and Applied Dynamics
The Metal Cutting research group at University West performs process research, incl. processing monitoring of machining processes, to understand relationships between machine tools characteristics, features in the cutting zone such as temperature on one hand and tool wear, surface integrity and productivity on the other. The research is performed both experimentally and by modeling/simulation. Key aspects is to study the machinability of high-performance alloys and metal cutting for sustainable development.
Duties
It is expected that the Professor will contribute in the scientific and strategic leadership of the group of metal cutting technology. The applicant is also expected to develop attractive courses and supervise PhD and undergraduate students in metal cutting in general. Other important aspects of the position include providing information and communication about research and current development in the subject area, the planning of research projects and cooperation within academia and society at large.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for employment as a professor, the applicant is required to have both scientific and teaching proficiency in Production Technology with emphasis on Metal Cutting. Experience in applied research in metal cutting mechanics, machine tool vibrations and control is highly meriting.
Assessment criteria
The degree of such proficiency which is a requirement for eligibility for employment shall apply as assessment criteria for employment of a professor. As much attention must be paid to assessment of educational proficiency as to assessment of scientific or artistic proficiency. Each higher education institution itself will otherwise determine what assessment criteria are to be applied when employing a professor.
Special attention will be paid to:
• Ability to lead and implement research projects
• Experience of academic leadership and the ability to develop research activities in collaboration with colleagues and the community
• Experience in seeking and obtaining external research funding
• Experience of applied research in metal cutting mechanics, machine tool vibrations and control
• Experience of applied research in modeling and simulation of metal cutting processes
• Experience of applied research in machinability of high-performance alloys
• Ability to develop education and training activities in collaboration with colleagues and the community
• Interpersonal skills
