Nordita, the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1957. It moved to Stockholm, Sweden, in 2007, where it is jointly hosted by KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University. Research at Nordita covers a broad range of theoretical physics including astrophysics, biophysics, condensed matter physics, gravitation, cosmology and astroparticle physics, high-energy physics, and statistical physics/complex systems. The research activity of the local academic staff is supplemented by Nordita Scientific Programs, which bring together groups of leading experts to work on specific topics for extended periods. In connection with a project on Bottleneck in turbulent aerosols there is a vacancy for several 6-month positions as researcher at the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics (Nordita) in Stockholm. The successful candidates will be working with the Pencil Code using the particle module to study the interaction between particles and turbulence in astrophysical and meteorological settings. One particular activity will focus on the role of fluctuations on the collision and coagulation of droplets in turbulent flows using the Lagrangian particle module.
The successful candidates will work with Professors Axel Brandenburg and Dhrubaditya Mitra at Nordita, and Bernhard Mehlig at Gothenburg University.
Qualification requirements
Researchers are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country
Assessment criteria
Eligible for the positions are applicants with a PhD and at least 10 years of professional experience in the field. Familiarity with the Pencil Code (github.com/pencil-code) is beneficial.
Terms of employment
The positions will start on January 1, 2020, or some other date agreed upon. The positions will be either full-time or part-time, but no longer than for 6 months.
