A better world requires new perspectives enabled by new knowledge, new technologies, and strong forces that bring them together. RISE, Sweden's independent research institute and innovation partner, serves as such a force by connecting research excellence with industrial and societal impact.
RISE is now establishing MIMER-Sweden's national AI Factory, a European hub for AI research, advanced infrastructure, and large-scale adoption. Mimer will strengthen Sweden's and Europe's capacity to develop and deploy AI responsibly across strategic application areas.
In this context, RISE is expanding its activities at the intersection of Applied AI and Materials Science. AI-driven methods are rapidly transforming how materials and production processes are developed, enabling faster, more sustainable, and more data-driven innovation.
About us The position is based at the Division of Materials and Production (MoP) and the Department of Manufacturing and Production Transition, where applied research and close collaboration with industry are central to developing impactful materials and manufacturing solutions. The division works across the full innovation chain, from fundamental understanding to industrial implementation. The role is carried out in close collaboration with RISE's Division of Computer Science, comprising around 100 experts with leading competence in core digital technologies, including AI, cybersecurity, 5G/Edge, IoT, advanced data analytics, and software and data center technologies.
The position is connected to Mimer, one of 19 European AI Factories within the EuroHPC framework. Mimer brings together more than 25 colleagues from RISE across multiple units and roles including researchers, business developers, and communicators working jointly to strengthen industrial competitiveness and innovation in Sweden and across Europe. Together, these capabilities are at the forefront of the digital transformation of industry and society and are critical to Sweden's long-term competitiveness.
About the position This position is central to Mimer's mission to enable organizations to apply modern AI efficiently, responsibly, and at scale. You will work hands-on with users and partners to address real-world challenges, develop applied AI solutions, and make advanced AI and HPC infrastructure accessible.
The role can be described as an AI deployment oriented position, operating at the interface between research, engineering, and industrial use. You will collaborate closely with researchers, engineers, SMEs, and companies, translating needs into technical solutions ranging from rapid prototypes to production-ready workflows. This includes developing reusable tools, pipelines, and components that support broad AI adoption.
You will work with state-of-the-art AI methods, including large language models, agent-based systems, computer vision, multimodal models, generative AI, and physics-based and physics-informed machine learning (PhyML). A key part of the role is supporting users as they transition from experimentation to deployment, including onboarding partners to Mimer's secure AI and HPC infrastructure.
Your involvement in Mimer also includes contributions to training, workshops, knowledge transfer, and community-building activities in Sweden and across Europe. You will collaborate closely with colleagues in areas such as trustworthy AI, software engineering, HPC, data management, and domain-specific teams, and contribute to Europe-wide AI Factory activities.
In addition, part of the role will be dedicated to applied research within Department of Manufacturing and Production Transition, focusing on manufacturing and materials-related challenges. This includes research in forming, casting, additive manufacturing, and fundamental materials research, where AI and data-driven methods are applied to improve processes, material performance, and sustainability.
The position is based at the Division of MoP and the Department of Manufacturing and Production Transition in Mölndal.
