NordGen - the Nordic Genetic Resource Center - is an institution under the Nordic Council of Ministers, working with conservation and sustainable utilization of farm animals, forest trees and agricultural plants. Our main objective is to secure genetic diversity and thereby the biological basis of renewable resources. NordGen aims to be a leading international service and knowledge center for the management of genetic resources of farm animals, forest trees and plants. NordGen is responsible for the Nordic storage of seed propagated cultivated crops and administrates the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. NordGen is seeking an Environmental Coordinator
As of January 1, 2009, environmental issues will be included in NordGen's portfolio. NordGen is therefore announcing a vacancy for the position of Environmental Coordinator at NordGen's main office at Alnarp.
We are looking for a person with a solid academic background in the field of environmental management, with at least a Master's degree. Experience in the field of nature and landscape resource management will be valued. Working experience with, and a solid understanding of, the value of biological diversity is equally important, as scientific work in this field. Good knowledge in written and spoken English as well as one Scandinavian language is required.
The applicant should also have a broad, professional network within the Nordic, and preferably also international, work on environmental and agricultural issues. NordGen cooperates closely with national authorities, research environments and NGOs, and the ability to maintain and develop such close contacts is considered essential. For the same reason the position involves some travelling, both within the Nordic countries and internationally.
The coordinator will report to the head of the NordGen Plants section, but will be expected to have a cross-sector perspective and work closely with all three sectors of NordGen; i.e. crops, forest trees and farm animals. Environmental considerations are to be incorporated within all of the areas for which NordGen is responsible. Of particular importance will be a future focus on in situ conservation in cooperation with the national programmes.
Specific job responsibilities include:
• Establishing and maintaining close cooperation with networks on environment and agriculture
• Developing strategies for obtaining effective in situ conservation, including necessary structures and documentation systems
• Producing project applications within our environmental focus

We can provide:
• Employment on a 4-year Nordic contract, with the possibility of extending the contract for another 4 years. The position is included in official regulations for leave of absence for civil servants.
