Engine Control Engineer

The section Engine Controls & Calibration is responsible for function development, optimization, and calibration of engine control in Volvo Car Groups petrol and diesel engines. The section consists of around 100 persons working in the engine dynos, vehicle dynos, in vehicles and with simulations. Many of the section staff also participate in expeditions to get the right atmospheric conditions for their job. This position will be a part of the group Air charge control. The group is responsible for air-, turbo-, throttle- and EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) control. We are also responsible for air charge modelling of mass flow into the engine, pressure and temperature in the intake and exhaust manifold. We also develop the software for the control.
As an Engine Controls Engineer you will be a part of the development of air charge engine control calibration for engines and vehicles for VED gen3 projects. Your responsibilities will be to plan and carrying out tests in engine dynamometer, chassis dynamometer and drivability in vehicle, analyse the data and optimise the data set. You will work closely with experienced engineers in a highly dedicated team but have a clear area of responsibility. The work will be divided between the office, test cell application, and vehicle testing. To be able to test the vehicles in different environments this position requires travel, usually abroad a couple of times every year.
Main responsibilities

• Optimization of air charge control for engine and vehicle projects, to meet emission and CO2 requirements and deliver optimal performance
• Propose functional changes within mentioned areas for the engine management system
• Plan and execute engine tests in engine dyno, vehicle dyno, vehicle tests and participate during vehicle expeditions to verify and perform climate corrections on the calibration. Document the results in presentations and reports

Required qualifications

• University degree in engineering (B.Sc, M.Sc or Ph D) or long time engineering experience
• Experience from engine control or engine concept development
• Good knowledge of English (spoken and written)
• Drivers license B
• Experience from air charge control is meritorious
• Experience from software development, embedded systems in particular is meritorious
• Experience of INCA, Matlab and Simulink will also be meritorious
