The European Spallation Source ERIC (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, is one of the largest science and technology infrastructure projects being built today. The project includes the most powerful linear proton accelerator ever built, a five-tonne, helium-cooled tungsten target wheel, 15 state-of-the-art neutron instruments, a suite of laboratories, and a supercomputing data management and software development centre. In the context of its history and future as a scientific organisation, however, it is more than the sum of its parts. It is a brand new Big Science organisation and we are building it from the ground up.

Come and build the future of Science with us!

About the role

The Infrastructure Operations & Maintenance Group at ESS consists of 14 staff members, and is responsible for maintaining, repairing and managing all building installations in the facility. It manages operation of technical conventional installations, and upon identifying needs, initiates changes and improvements.

The group is now seeking to appoint an additional Electrical Maintenance Technician for the electrical part of the group, currently consisting of seven staff members, to carry out a wide variety of electrical maintenance tasks to a high standard, ensuring that risk assessments are created and followed, and adding all relevant information into the Infor EAM maintenance management system. You will also develop and uphold maintenance plans for electrical systems.

As Switching Operator, you will carry out safe switching and LO/TO of both high and low voltage electrical distribution systems, to facilitate maintenance and repair. You will assist service partners with coordination of tasks and duties, maintaining excellent electrical safety practices within all aspects of work, and develop your knowledge and understanding of the ESS plant and its operation.

Regularly being on-call is part of the role today, and in the future some shift work may be required. This is compensated for according to our collective agreement.

This is a permanent, full-time position placed in Lund, Sweden, and we need someone who can start as soon as practically possible. Probationary period six months.

About you

To be successful in this role, you need to have documented electrical qualifications. Your training in the area could for example be through vocational education or similar. In addition to this, you need some years' experience from working in technical positions with tasks as described above. It is an advantage if your experience comes from industry or a facility similar to that of ESS. You should also have knowledge on Swedish electrical legislation and regulations.

Furthermore, you have general IT and computer skills, and preferably a driving license. You can communicate in English, as it is the working language of ESS, and preferably also in Swedish. It is an advantage if you have worked in an international organisation before.

As a person you enjoy communication and collaboration, both within and outside your team, and you know that collaborating with a large number of people may require patience and a flexible mindset. You find it important to follow instructions and procedures, while also being able to proactively plan and organise your own work.

What we offer

Aside from the chance to work at a truly unique Big Science project, you can also expect:

• An opportunity to contribute to future discoveries within neutron science.
• A stunning, brand new workplace filled with innovative minds and brilliant people from across the globe.
• A challenging, innovative and stimulating work environment.
• 25 days of annual leave, as well as more than 10 days of public holiday and company days off or days with limited working hours.
