U 2012/31
Symtoms and experiences in patients with Takotsubo syndrome
Application deadline: 2012-02-09
Description of the research project
Two of the cornerstones in person-centered care are patient narratives and self-assessment of symptoms. The experiences that the research subjects communicate regarding their symptoms and life situation will provide concrete information on how they perceive their disease and overall life situation. The overall aims are 1) to, through questionnaires and interviews, describe patients with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC); 2) to investigate how the patients perceive their disease, treatment and follow-up; and 3) to identify distinguishing symptoms of TTC and predictors of recurrence, complications and recovery time in the subjective symptoms of the patients.
The result of the studies will provide knowledge about lived experiences, risk factors and other characteristics of the population. Furthermore, which diagnosis and what kind of treatment or other interventions they receive will be identified. Increased knowledge of the population will help to identify the patients earlier and optimize the treatment and follow-up. This will in turn relief suffering in the individual and helps them regaining ordinary life pattern activities such as return to work or other daily activities. We hypothesize that increased knowledge of the population and optimization of the treatment and follow-up will result in societal cost savings.
This is a clinical project that will take place in the contexts of the hospital and outpatient clinic. The candidate therefore optimally has a clinical background as a RN, and experience of working with psychosocial nursing, questionnaires and of conducting interviews is an advantage. The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary, international research group and in collaboration with other research projects and doctorial students within the University of Gothenburg Centre for Person-Centred Care.
