The WWF Arctic Programme office is located in WWF-Sweden's office in Stockholm, where the Arctic Programme Director will be based. The Director will lead a Core Team of senior specialists who provide technical and policy input and facilitate cooperation, joint strategizing, communication and implementation of the Arctic Programme's goals and strategies among Arctic and non-Arctic national offices.
The programme's Core Team is located primarily in WWF-Sweden and a few other WWF offices. The WWF Arctic Programme Steering Committee is the governing body for the WWF Arctic Programme, guiding the strategic direction of the programme.
Main responsibilities:
Coordinate and implement the WWF Arctic Strategic Plan and annual workplan.
Supervise, motivate and enable, with staff responsibility, the Arctic Programme's Core Team members.
Serve as key liaison for Arctic issues with the wider WWF Network.
Communicate the urgency of Arctic conservation with diverse audiences in a compelling way.
Represent WWF among various international bodies and build relationships with external partners, with a focus on international policy and coordination with governments, Indigenous Peoples' organisations, inter-governmental organisations, academia, NGOs and the corporate sector.
Support WWF's role as an observer to the Arctic Council.
Ensure the appropriate use of funds and oversee the preparation of reports for the WWF Network.
Work with the WWF Arctic Network National Offices to identify internal and external fundraising opportunities.
Required qualifications and experience:
Ability to work in a collaborative setting where leadership and authority are distributed.
3-5 years' experience in a leadership role, with experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams.
A proven track record of leading and working in network organisations, and with geographically dispersed multicultural teams.
An advanced degree in natural sciences, environmental management and policy, law, international relations, or related field.
10 years progressively senior professional work experience in conservation, policy, environment, sustainable development, or other related fields.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and proven experience from advocacy and influencing to drive change at a regional and/or international scale.
Excellent command of the English language, basic knowledge of Swedish and willingness to improve (fluent Swedish is an advantage), other Arctic language is an asset.
Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills and strong analytical, organization and communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in building relations and partnerships with various stakeholders.
Experience in working with Indigenous Peoples organisations is an asset.
Familiarity with Arctic issues and challenges, understanding of the Arctic circumpolar environment, sustainable development and policy, as well as Arctic regional and other relevant intergovernmental bodies and processes.

This is a permanent position based at our office in Stockholm, that will require international travel as part of the role.
