Diagnostic core & Communication - Development Engineer

The diagnostic teams in the department Complete Powertrain are involved early in the development of new powertrain concepts. It is a large challenge to develop solutions which both meet legal requirements and have maximum robustness not causing customer disturbances. The teams are responsible for development of system solutions, functional design and verification in full-scale test cars. We realise our ideas through the development of functionality software in a number of embedded control systems.

As a Development Engineer for Diagnostic Kernel and External Communications you will work for all engine and transmission control systems. The main task for the Diagnostic Kernel is to manage the results of all diagnoses to identify the root cause of the failure. The main task for the External Communication is to deliver accurate error information at workshops. The team is responsible for designing, optimising and validating diagnostic functions for all Powertrain units to fulfill OBD and workshop requirements worldwide. We ensure that the customer/driver as far as possible get correct and nothing else but necessary Powertrain diagnostic information. We are looking to strengthen our team with an additional Diagnostic Kernel responsible Engineer who will work in projects during early phases, which also includes Annual- and Research studies.

Main responsibilities

• Coordinate work with Volvo Cars Service and Manufacturing to update requirements
• Investigating needs for vehicle level information and reconfiguration management and form requirements
• Creating a high level domain model (structure, interfaced, and rough allocation of functionality)
• Defining scalability with regard to functionality, and how the SW should be design/configured with this in mind
• Report project status to project and line organisations

Required qualifications

• University degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Applied Physics, Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent experience
• Experience of embedded control systems
• Work experience within the automotive industry and AUTOSAR
• At least 5 years work experience in electronic diagnostic systems and system specifications
• Drivers License (B-level)
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Experience of work with diagnostic kernel is meritorious
• Skills in designing software algorithms is an asset
