Commodity Manufacturing Engineering is one of the departments within Volvo Cars Manufacturing Engineering VCME.

We develop and implement quality assured, flexible and effective production systems in the Final Assembly plants.

Our task is to ensure a process-driven product development by driving forward and coordinating Manufacturing Engineering activities in design and product development, with focus on production-effective product solutions.

Within Commodity Manufacturing Engineering Trim & Final, we are now looking for Manufacturing Engineers, situated in Sweden and Belgium.

The overall purpose of the role is to:

Assure flawless introduction of car programs, model year changes and running changes into VCC plants
Upon request, support other parts of Manufacturing Engineering, when expertise competence is needed
Continuously strive for commonality in production process within VCC plants
Main Tasks:

A Commodity Manufacturing Engineer leads the cross technical product and production manufacturing work, as well as represents Manufacturing during different phases of the product development within the own commodity area. The main tasks are:

Provide product and process feedback to Research & Development (R&D) in order to fulfil the "six manufacturing attributes" (quality, man hours, cost efficiency, environment, flexibility, and change over)
Define, implement and verify all needed specific commodity equipment & tools to achieve optimal availability
Describe and visualise assembly methods and issue Process and Inspection Instruction (PII), including ownership over time
Develop efficient (man-hour & layout) and ergonomic work methods. Update the local manufacturing engineering systems and inputs to steering system for production control
Ensure fulfilment of all functional final demands for vehicle system and components within the commodity area
Verify and quality assure the assembly methodology, manufacturing requirements and robust design solutions in virtual- and pre-series.
Initiate and perform Process & Assembly FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis)
Identify needs of new error proofing- and quality assurance systems
Support process-driven product development by cooperating with the Core Engineering group in concept phase
Perform Manufacturing Approval for the commodity area
Competence Requirements:

Technical university, or technical senior high school degree combined with relevant working experience
Practical experience of production process
You are familiar with tools used within Manufacturing- and/or Production Engineering, such as FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and DFA (Design for Assembly)
English in spoken and written
