Our Exciting Opportunity
Ericsson Research Cloud Systems and Platforms is looking for a senior researcher to strengthen our team working with cloud application execution environments and application infrastructure. Current activities in the area include studying and prototyping solutions for cloud native deployments of mission critical applications, and resolving their requirements on the environment. Other research topics include distributed systems in general, from device and edge to cloud, with applications having differing requirements on scalability, resilience, and performance.
In this position you will collaborate with research teams from all over the world - research area Cloud alone is present in five countries - from prototyping solutions for identified upcoming business needs to investigate the ramifications of future computing concepts. You will work with internal researchers, with product development, and at times in close collaboration with academic institutions.
The overarching goal of our work is to generate IPR (Intellectual Property Rights), offer insights, and provide cloud related expertise to impact Ericsson business and products, to prepare for, and enable, the journey to 5G and beyond.
You will
Collaborate with other teams from research, product development or academia in research projects where cloud and edge cloud are key components
Identify important topics for future research contributing to the Ericsson technology strategy
Develop novel concepts and algorithms, and prototyping them to verify that they translate well into real-world applications
Communicate results and ideas to other teams, within and outside of the cloud area, in written reports, demonstrations and presentations
Supervise and mentor other researchers and students
Report to Research Leader
To be successful in the role you must have
A MSc or equivalent, a PhD, or a Licentiate degree, in an area related to computer science, networking and/or cloud computing
Analytical thinking combined with a healthy dose of creativity
The ability to acquire and apply new knowledge
Good knowledge of programming and software development
The ability to formulate problems and seek them, both independently and in collaboration with others
Documented ability to express and demonstrate ideas, and the transfer of knowledge to others
Good communication skills in written and spoken English
Some work experiences
Desirable experience includes one or more of the following
Hands-on experience with cloud & virtualization technologies such as OpenStack, Kubernetes, Docker
Hands-on experience with cloud services & application infrastructure such as service mesh, cloud native networking, in-memory/distributed databases
Distributed systems in general
Software development, CI/CD (continuous integration/continuous deployment)
