Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences
Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology
SLU is a world-class university in the life and environmental sciences, with a vision to play a key role in the development of a sustainable life, based on science and education. Here, the Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology, located in Uppsala, contributes with research and teaching focused on fundamental and applied aspects of interactions between microorganisms and plants, as well as mycology, microbial ecology and evolution. Plant pathology, biodiversity and nutrient turnover in agricultural and forest ecosystems are central areas. The department offers courses at undergraduate, advanced and postgraduate levels in biology as well as soil, environmental, forestry and agricultural sciences within several programs, for example Agronomy, Soil, Water and Environment, Plant Biology for Sustainable Production and Forest Ecology and Sustainable Management, but also provides individual courses in mycology, nature conservation and microbiology.

The Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology offers a stimulating, international research environment. For Soil Microbiology research group, we are now looking for an assistant senior lecturer who combines computational research with experimental validation for understanding and predicting the ecology and importance of microorganism in soil. The group constitutes a strong research environment and conducts basic research on the ecology of microorganisms in terrestrial ecosystems with applications in sustainable agriculture. The research is carried out in collaboration with other departments at SLU, primarily Soil and Environment, Ecology, and Plant Production Ecology. There are also collaborations with national and international research colleagues as well as with various stakeholders and society at large.

The department is part of the SLU Biocentre, a research environment with modern infrastructure, including a plant cultivation facility. At SLU there are agricultural field research stations and a large number of long-term agricultural experiments with data series, and SLU also coordinates the national infrastructure SITES for terrestrial and limnological field research. Uppsala is one of the major hubs for the national infrastructure SciLifeLab, which offers expertise and advanced technology platforms in the life sciences and bioinformatics. The department has its own computing cluster and also has access to national computing resources through NAISS.
