We are looking for a motivated and engaged Scientific Leader for our Cell Culture Sciences & Banking Sweden team at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden. This is an exciting opportunity for you to lead a team of scientists responsible for scientific research in the areas of cell culture and provision. As well as the operational aspects of new cell line acquisition, provision of cells within projects and generation of cell banks, cryopreservation, storage and revival of banks, supply of cells to local and global sites, as well as governance and compliance.

You will work within Discovery Sciences, part of AstraZeneca's BioPharmaceuticals organisation, which focuses on scientific advances in established and emerging medicine formats and drug discovery technologies across therapeutic areas including Respiratory & Immunology (R&I), Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolism (CVRM), and Neuroscience. What you will do:
As an Associate Director you will lead a great team of scientists delivering to drug discovery projects in AstraZeneca. You will provide coaching, training and development to individuals and build an impactful team. You will develop and maintain a high level of science and technology knowledge to drive the team vision and develop proposals for improved practice around cell culture, banking, storage and provision.

With your thorough knowledge of the drug discovery process, you will lead from the lab and deliver to projects. The role also includes leading aspects of multidisciplinary projects related to drug projects or technology development and you will work across skill groups within and outside of your own function. As an Associate Director you are part of the Cell Sciences Sweden leadership team with a key responsibility in helping to drive the performance of our department.

Essential in the role:

* PhD in Cell Biology or a related field, or a BSc/MSc degree with significant relevant experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
* Strong leadership capabilities with emphasis on people management.
* Proven ability to manage complex collaborations and partnerships with a record in leading projects.
* Expertise in cell culturing and banking of a wide range of adherent and suspension mammalian cells, including cell lines, primary cells, iPSCs and stem cells at plate-, flask- and multi-layer cell stack scales.
* Great knowledge in cellular biology techniques used to develop transient and stable cell lines.
* Expertise in handling license agreements, material transfer agreements and ethical consents.
* Expert knowledge in working with human biological samples.
* Highly skilled in biosafety and biosecurity.

Desirable in the role:

* Research experience in disease biology in any of the following areas: cardiovascular, renal, diabetes, respiratory or immunological diseases.
* Excellent academic credibility including recent high quality/impact publications.
* Working knowledge in cell assay development.
