The exterior and especially front and rear lighting is the first thing you will notice on a car. The Exterior Lighting is a key communication point for Volvo Cars, and this will increase in the future due to more advance technique and product design. It is exciting and challenging to be the one who predict the aspect of light in phase when everything is still in digital using state of the physics based software and to create photo realistic virtual prototypes! Now, this exciting position can be yours, since Volvo Cars Exterior development is now looking for a new colleague!
At Exterior Lighting concept, you are part of a global cross-functional development team with the task to develop and launch Volvo Car Group's coming car projects. You will be responsible to perform and deliver aspect simulation results and analysis reports, to contribute shorten lead-time and a higher quality of final product. You will mainly be working in Catia V5 environment and use softwares like Optis Speos and Synopsys Lucidshape. Your work will also include other support softwares as well as developing future ways of foreseeing issues, since Volvo is constantly trying to improve tools and streamline workflows. You will be a key contributor to improve decision making in a close collaboration with Suppliers, Design department, Exterior department and perceived Quality department. Be aware that Volvo Cars is one of "the best in class" in lighting visualization and we are looking for the best talents in this field!
Main responsibilities
Virtual lighting setup for stills and film
Rendering
Basic animation
Perform BRDF (Bidirectional Reflectance) measurement and handle material data
Perform lit off and lit on aspect simulation based on physically correct optical properties on exterior lighting and surrounding components.
Support Lighting concept and Lighting program execution with perceived quality, luminance and legal analysis and verification
Develop working methods to improve future aspect simulations
Required qualifications
Bachelor of Science in physics or other equivalent engineering, based on relevant work experience
Documented physics knowledge
Experiences in visualisation
Experience from product development and cross functional work
Fluent in English, written and spoken
Driver's license "B"
Meritorious qualifications
Optical design knowledge
Deep knowledge in photography and post production
Programming/scripting languages e.g. C, C++, Python, Html, Ruby, Visual Basic
Unix and bash shell experience
Automotive industry CAD data experience
Interested and motivated in general to learn new things
Meritorious tools
Speos, Lucidshape, Lighttools, Zemax, Trace Pro, Asap, Fred, Oslo, Code V etc.
