hela Sverige The Beam Physics section of the Accelerator Division at European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for an Accelerator Scientist position on the beam physics studies for the commissioning of the ESS linear accelerator.
Description of division
The Accelerator Division is responsible for the design, construction, installation and commissioning of the ESS accelerator, in collaboration with partner institutions and other divisions of the ESS. The candidate will join a vibrant and multi-cultural beam physics section within the ESS Accelerator Division.
Description of main responsibilities
The work will focus on the challenging aspects of the beam physics of the ESS linac, including simulations and taking part in the exciting initial beam commissioning which will start now in 2018.
Main focus for this position will be simulations of the beam dynamics in a space charge dominated linac, which is under early commissioning. More specifically, studies of the effective transport of different beam currents and optimize configurations for the accelerator. Regular presentations of the work carried out will be necessary, in collaboration with specialists from a wide range of engineering disciplines.
It is possible that during commissioning, early operations and later in maintenance periods, occasional shift work (including nights and weekends) might be required.
Qualifications
The applicant must have a doctoral degree or equivalent experience in physics or a related area, with good knowledge of the accelerator physics and, preferably, beam dynamics of hadron linacs. Excellent capabilities to perform research shall be demonstrated through publications in peer-reviewed journals and/or at important conferences in the accelerator domain. Solid knowledge of particle tracking and beam optics codes is an advantage.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong interest in academic research, an interest to collaborate and exchange knowledge and is good in documenting the work. Good oral and written proficiency in English is required, as well as the capacity to work both independently and in a team. To be successful in this position the candidate must be able to interact well with others and to work in a balanced way even when demands are high.

Duration & Location
The position is a fixed term position for 2 years, with possibility of an additional year extension. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible, on a date mutually agreed upon.
