The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) is among the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe with special focus on increasing our knowledge of the aetiology of different diseases. Our department consists of researchers, doctoral students, biostatisticians, data collectors and database administrators as well as administrative personnel, in total some 250 staff. Division

The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics carries out epidemiologic research of many kinds ranging from traditional epidemiology to molecular epidemiology and has a number of strong research areas including psychiatric/ cancer/ infectious/ reproductive/ cardiovascular epidemiology and biostatistics.

Unique Swedish resources and prerequisites - such as several large prospective studies, ongoing nationwide case-control studies, large nationwide research registries, record linkage capabilities and access to clinical data as well as biologic material - are effectively explored at the department. The department is host to a number of large projects and registers:

- The Swedish Twin Registry

- CRISP center "Cancer Risk Prediction and Prevention Center" of prostate and breast cancer

- Karma (Karolinska Mammography Project for Risk Prediction of Breast Cancer)

- The SIMSAM project "SIMSAM MEB family design"

- The two SSF centers of bipolar disease and cervical cancer

- Center for Eating Disorders Innovation

- Karolinska Institutet Psychiatric Genomics Institute (KI-PGI)

- KI Biobank (core facility)

Employment

The position is for 2 plus 2 years after evaluation. We are now inviting applicants for 1 - 4 positions as Assistant professor in Medical Epidemiology and/or Biostatistics. An Assistant professor will essentially carry out research and develop their independence as a researcher.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Assistant professor if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, and is able to demonstrate skills and experience in the fields of epidemiology and/or biostatistics.

The persons appointed should primarily be the ones who have been granted a Degree of Doctor or have reached the corresponding competence no more than seven years before the end of the application period.

Bases of assessment

The base for assessment will be the scientific expertise and overall scientific quality in the field of epidemiology/biostatistics. Pedagogical experience and leadership qualities are merited.

An Assistant professor position is a fixed-term position. The first employment should be two years, with a possible extension of two years after evaluation.
