hela Sverige Karolinska Institutet (KI) invites applicants to a new professorship, "The Endre A.
Balazs
Professorship in Innovation and Entrepreneurship". The professorship is made possible by a generous donation from Professor Endre A. Balazs, and his wife, Dr. Janet L. Denlinger. It is their ambition that the holder of the position should significantly advance research and education in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship at KI. The vision for this professorship is to allow the holder to tackle challenges that are both bolder and riskier than would otherwise be possible.
The healthcare and life science sectors are facing numerous challenges for which research in
innovation and entrepreneurship is important. KI offers extensive opportunities to interact with and study actors and processes in basic and clinical research, the healthcare system, the
university innovation system, and industry. Through these networks, the knowledge generated has potential to impact healthcare, as well as innovation and entrepreneurship, policy and practice.
KI has comprehensive partnerships with innovation actors in the healthcare system and with a variety of life science and other industry partners. Over the past 15 years KI's health and life science innovation system has been markedly expanded, not least through structural support from Karolinska Innovations AB and the Innovation Office as well as the appointment of a Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Innovation and Commercial Outreach.
At KI, several research groups and environments are focusing on research and education within innovation and entrepreneurship. These can be seen as a resource for this professorship. KI is also a partner in Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship (SSES), an educational collaboration with four other universities: Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm School of Economics, Stockholm University, andUniversity College of Arts, Crafts and Design.
Duties
Responsibilities include research and teaching at different levels. The identified professor is
expected to establish and lead a research group to contribute to the continued development of innovation and entrepreneurship research at KI. The successful candidate is also expected to develop and be involved in new and existing educational activities (e.g. Master's programme in Bioentrepreneurship, elective courses for PhD and bachelor/master students, etc.). The professor is expected to interact and collaborate with other sectors of society and to acquire competitive national and international funding.
