Scania is now undergoing a transformation from being a supplier of trucks, buses and engines to a supplier of complete and sustainable transport solutions.

Do you want to lead the development for steel and heat treatment for powertrain components? Do you have deep knowledge within the field as well as a strong leadership to realise technology development?

Steels in powertrains continue to play an important role for the overall performance of both traditional and electrified powertrains. Demands for mechanical properties such as fatigue strength are ever increasing. The development of material solutions for such products requires thorough understanding about steel properties, manufacturing methods, and the product application.

Your main tasks
You will as technical manager for steel and heat treatment lead the technology development within the field. This involves for example:

• Defining and realising a research plan (Technology Road Map, TRM).
• Initiating internal and external projects for advancing the area forward, and also to disseminate the knowledge within the organisation.
• Participation as an expert to support in questions within the field.
• Cooperate within the TRATON group as well as the VW group.
• Representing Materials Technology internally at Scania, TRATON, and VW, as well as externally towards universities, institutes and companies in project collaborations.

In this role, you will coordinate developments and expertise within your field between departments of design, production, purchasing, and field quality in order to create value by enhancing Scania's products.

You will be part of the group for materials technology for powertrains, which is part of the section of Materials technology with some 55 employees.

We are a group of nine experienced research engineers and one industrial PhD student. We provide material solutions and expertise in materials for powertrains.

Your profile
We think that you have a PhD or an MSc in materials sciences or in a similar field, and at least five years professional experience in mechanical properties of steels and/or heat treatment methods for steels.

The role will require the ability to lead the technology development within the field of steels and heat treatment, and also to ensure that the technical development creates value into Scania's products. Beside technical knowledge, personal traits that may be of benefit may be:

• Curiosity within your field but also in other fields that may be of interest for future development.
• Initiative and a strategic mindset in order to recognise and do what needs to be done.
• A strong customer focus and having the ability to balance between different requirements.
• Ability to present information in a structured and educational way in order to create engagement with others.
• Leading yourself and having the ability to lead others in order to reach your objectives.
