OM TJÄNSTEN
For our clients environmental chemistry group, located in Stockholm, we are now looking to expand their team with a part time student in molecular biology to support the work with the analysis of eDNA from a wide range of environmental samples and the use of cell based assays.

The interest of authorities and companies in using environmental DNA when analysing biodiversity has increased recently and now they need to expand the group to meet this need. Similar for the work with cell based assays, where a brand new lab has been set-up. Your working hours will therefore be based on the needs of the customer.

IVL's laboratory has many accredited methods, and high quality is the basis of their business, but they also have a flexibility that allows them to carry out more customer-tailored and research oriented assignments.

ARBETSUPPGIFTER

Work tasks

As a Laboratory Assistant, you will be responsible for the routine cultivation of mammalian and fish cell lines, including thawing, passaging, freezing, and general maintenance. Your daily work involves preparing culture media, buffers, and reagents according to established protocols, while closely monitoring cell health, confluency, and contamination levels using microscopy.
A high level of precision is required as you maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure that all documentation is up to date. You will also play a key role in the upkeep of our facility by cleaning, sterilizing, and maintaining laboratory equipment and workspaces. It is essential that you follow biosafety guidelines, practice impeccable aseptic techniques, and adhere to laboratory SOPs. Additionally, you will support the team with inventory management to ensure a seamless workflow in the lab.

Your work also includes:

• Soil, water and air sample processing
• DNA-extraction and purification
• PCR quantification by cubit
• Participating in the quality work
• Preparing equipment for analysis (e.g. washing and burning of glassware, thawing samples, sending out sampling equipment to customers, preparing stock solutions and gels, clean-up ..)
• Supporting in other types of analyses such as IVLs effect tests using modified cell cultures

VI SÖKER DIG SOM
• An ongoing master education in molecular biology / biomedical analysis or similar, graduation earliest in 2027
• Practical experience of working in a lab
• Basic understanding of DNA sequencing and molecular methods for biodiversity analysis
• Familiarity with aseptic technique and biosafety practices
• Basic knowledge of microscopy and cell-based assays
• Ability to follow protocols and work independently or as part of a team
• Good communication skills in English
• Experience in independent work
• Experience working in a regulated or academic laboratory environment

It is meritorious if you have
• Communication skills in Swedish
• Practical experience of working with eDNA or qPCR
• Hands-on experience with routine cell culture techniques
• Experience with mammalian and/or fish cell lines
