Do you have expertise within in vivo biology that you enjoy applying in the lab? Have you worked with large and/or small animals? Would you like to apply your expertise in a company where we are following the science and turn ideas into life changing medicines? Then you might be the one we are looking for!

We are now recruiting a Senior Scientist with expertise in in vivo biology to join the heart failure in vivo team within the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease (CVMD) therapeutic area at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Business area CVMD IMED

CVMD is one of the three main therapeutic research areas within Innovative Medicines and Early Development (IMED), AstraZeneca's Biotech unit that deliver candidate drugs into clinical development. AstraZeneca has a patient-centric approach for discovering novel treatments for patients with metabolic disease, chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease. The three areas are integrated into one unit - CVMD IMED. At the Heart failure Bioscience department we focus on identifying and validating new drug targets for patients with cardiovascular disease and heart failure. The team delivers key data to projects across all phases of the drug discovery and development and we work with different modalities such as small molecules, mRNA, antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) and peptides.

The Role

As a Senior Scientist, In Vivo Biology you will play a key role in driving science and projects forward within the heart failure area. This role is primarily lab-based and you will explore novel drug targets and support existing projects with key in vivo and ex vivo data. Collaboration is critical for successful delivery of drug projects and you will work closely with scientists/teams from a wide range of different functions within AstraZeneca. Your in vivo work will include experimental work in large animals as well as small animals to understand pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, establishing animal disease models and explore effects on cardiovascular function by different treatments in the animal models. You will perform surgical procedures when needed, establish and measure physiological parameters invasively e.g. with cardiac catheterization and non-invasively e.g. with ultrasound imaging. You will have the opportunity to try novel techniques and ideas required for progressing existing portfolio and novel science. Some in vitro work can also be part of role description.
