The University has 42 000 students and 7 400 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.
We are looking for a candidate to lead a project for constructing and developing instrumentation for imaging spectroscopies and high-resolution coincidence experiments (ICE project).
These instruments include a velocity and momentum imaging spectrometer and a magnetic bottle spectrometer to be used in low density matter reasearh at MAX IV Laboratory. The successful candidate will also act as a contact point at the MAX IV Laboratory for the low desnity matter (LDM) research community.
The tasks of a succesful candidate will include, but will not be restricted to, the following:
- Exerting full control and taking full responsibility for the progress and final success of the ICE project and instrumentation. This implies careful planning, coordinating activities of all involved support groups, discussing all critical decisions with the management and user community, initiating purchase and procurement of all relevant items, documenting all steps in the process, etc.
- Testing and commissionning of all equipment that is purchased or constructed in-house within the scope of the ICE project, enabling user operation of all planned instruments.
- Once in regular operation, providing user support to all groups working with the ICE-related equipment.
- Acting as a contact point and Initiating development of new instrumentation for the LDM user community.
- Recruiting new user groups, organizing workshops and coordinating LDM related activities at several beamlines (e.g. FlexPES and FinEstBeaMS).
The required qualifications are as follows:
- The candidate must hold a PhD in physics, solid state chemistry, or another relevant field.
- Documented experience in the use and maintenance of ultra-high vacuum equipment and developing complicated scientific instrumentation especially for imaging spectroscopies and coincidence experiments.
- Documented experience in electron-ion coincidence techniques and research with synchrotron radiation.
- Documented record of managing instrument development projects involving many participants.
- Documented record of working at a large scale scientific facility (e.g. synchrotron radiation facility) either as a user and/or as a member of staff.
- Experience in other spectroscopic techniques, advanced data analysis and programming is a considered a merit.
- Experience in mechanical engineering is considered a merit.
- Knowledge of the LDM comunity is considered a merit.
- Experience in organising larger meetings and/or workshops is considered a merit.
The ability to work in a team, good communication skills, and a good command of the English language are essential to successful completion of the tasks.
