Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world's top 100 universities. The University has 40 000 students and 7 600 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light. As a national laboratory, MAX IV is operated in agreement with governmental regulations, and in compliance with major funders such as the Swedish Research Council (VR) and the Wallenberg Foundation. 250 people are currently employed at MAX IV Laboratory, and 16 beamlines are funded. The facility is in a ramp-up phase with 3 beamlines now receiving users and 13 more scheduled to be commissioned and built to receive users within the next few years. The facility is dimensioned for 25-28 beamlines.

The Science division is divided into a number of supporting groups and three scientifically oriented groups, Imaging, Diffraction and Scattering, and Spectroscopy.

These groups are further divided into teams based on beamline or scientific technique. Each team has the task to develop and support the instrumentation and scientific activity at the different beamlines. The aim is to maintain and develop state of the art equipment at stable operation.

You will be part of the Bloch team at the Bloch beamline. The beamline is split into two branch lines specialized to angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and spin and angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (SPIN). The beamline is constructed with a cPGM monochromator with a NIM option, sourced by an elliptically polarizing quasi-periodic undulator. The main instrumentation at the ARPES end station is a ScientaOmicron DA30L analyzer with an online ScientaOmicron VT-STM. The SPIN end station is still under construction and will be equipped with a SPECS Phoibos 150 analyzer and a 3D-VLEED detector, expected to be operational by 2020.

You will be involved in the commissioning of the new beamline and the ARPES end station, including all its instrumentation. You will be working closely with the beamline personnel to help open the endstation for user operation. In this role your work and responsibility will be;

- Taking part in commissioning of new beamline and ARPES end station
- Performing maintenance during commissioning of the end station and initial expert user operation
- User support and training of visiting researchers
- Operating the STM for visiting researchers
- Taking an active part in the research projects

Qualifications:

- D. or an equivalent degree in physics or related discipline
- Working with ultra-high vacuum
- Experience in Angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy
- Experience in Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM)
- Experience in Low energy electron diffraction (LEED)
- Experience of working in a synchrotron environment
- Ability to work both unsupervised and in a team
- Must be fluent both in written and spoken English.

Meriting Qualifications:

- Since this a 6-month substitute knowledge and experience from the current experimental setup at Bloch or similar is a merit.
- Ability to join the group on short notice

This is a 6 months temporary employment.
