hela Sverige The Programme Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Safety Systems Engineer.
Description of directorate/division
The Systems Engineering Office - SEO - is organizationally located in the Programme Management Office. The SEO is responsible of the technical cohesiveness of all individual ESS elements. It is responsible for establishing the overall framework and procedures for the management of the ESS technical requirements, design process and verification process, and for orchestrating the evolution of the design through all lifecycle phases. It is also responsible for setting up and maintaining an ESS centralized model which will hold all results of the SE activities.
Description of main responsibilities
The SSE is responsible for providing guidelines and procedures for systems engineering requirements flow-down for Safety, Security, Health and Environement. The SSE supports the lead engineers for the requirements allocation to components. The SSE will conduct the review process for product specifications related to safety.
The SSE will act as the liaison officer between the SEO and the Safety, Health & Environment Office.
The SSE is also responsible for training and sensitising the personel to safety. In this framework, the SSE will set up and execute a training plan.
The SSE may support RAMI analyses to assess the ESS facility availability and if necessary propose baseline changes to enhance it.
Qualifications
Master of Science or equivalent in nuclear engineering. Skills in nuclear and conventional safety.
Experience in the implementation of safety activities within an internationnal project. Experience with an accelerator and/or target and/or control systems and/or instruments and/or conventional facilities and/or decommisioning activities is a plus but not a prerequisite.
Demonstrated ability to work with others and to communicate efficiently.
Experience of working in an international environment is essential.
Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.

The European Spallation Source ESS AB will design, build and operate a multi-disciplinary, large-scale research infrastructure based on the world's most powerful neutron source. ESS will provide scientists with unique and powerful neutron scattering instruments for the study of a large range of materials - from polymers and pharmaceuticals to membranes and molecules. The ESS project is partnered by 17 European countries, and hosted by Sweden and Denmark. The ESS will be built in Lund, Sweden, by a collaboration of European scientists and engineers. ESS is planned to produce the first neutrons by 2019. When the facility is in full operation 2025, ESS has around 450 employees.
