Caterpillar Propulsion wants to strengthen the Core Competence department and is now looking for an engineer with experience within rotordynamics. Our Core Competence team is internationally engaged in supporting all Caterpillar Propulsions systems regarding shaft analysis and product examination according to internal policies and demands from external classification societies.
As a Rotordynamics Engineer you will have the opportunity to take on a challenging role covering a wide range of machine element designs. Your responsibility will cover shaft analysis laterally, radially and axially for our propulsion shafts connected to each specific delivery. The role is versatile in the sense that you will follow each shaft from pre-dimensioning analysis to live testing as a peer technical expert. We are looking for either a skilled engineer with experience within machine-related FEM-analysis or a young professional with ability to develop. Your work and development will be fully supported from the team until you are independent.
Main responsibilities
• Execute rotordynamics tasks and activities pointed out by line management: analyse and check static and dynamic performance of examined designs; approve or reject examined designs and propose alternative solutions
• Inform on status and highlight relative issues in need of attention and/or decision
• Report to line management about status and risks, propose changes and actions preventing loss of time, secure and improve the result
• Shaft arrangement checks in respect of rotordynamics
• Attend practical measurements on site and provide technical advice when applicable
Required qualifications
• Master’s degree in Marine Engineering/Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or equivalent
• Preferably 1-3 years of applied working experience in related areas
• High skills in numerical computations for instance in FEM, rotordynamics analysis and machine element design tools
• Experienced in 2D/3D CAD
• High skills in programming
• Good English skills (speech and writing)
• Marine-related experience, such as naval architecture, marine engineering or marine class society rules and requirements are considered an additional qualification, as is experience in noise and vibration dynamics
