The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 47 500 students and 6 400 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

A 6 months full time position is available within the research group led by Ali Harandi, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Institute for Biomedicine, Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. The focus of the research group is on vaccine evaluation, particularly on studying novel immunization strategies and the mode of action of vaccines and adjuvants. The group has extensive collaboration with other universities and institutions internationally.

Job assignments
The development of novel vaccines may be facilitated by a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of action of vaccines or their individual components as they pertain to their interaction with the immune system. The research group is currently involved in several European Commission-funded collaborative projects with the main objective to improve our understanding of vaccine mechanisms of action. The research is done by employing conventional immunological methods combined with cutting-edge omics technologies.

The researcher is expected to conduct studies within one or more of the ongoing EU vaccine projects. In particular, the postdoctoral fellow will be involved in research on evaluation of vaccine-induced immune responses in humans and animal models using conventional immunological methods as well as omics (including transcriptomics and mirnomics).

Qualifications
A PhD in immunology with proven track record in vaccine immunology research and documented experiences and expertise in transcriptomics analysis of immune response to human viruses and vaccines, animal models of viral infectious diseases, and virological analysis methods are required. Post-doctoral experience in vaccine response evaluation is required. The successful candidate will have excellent communicative skills particularly regarding scientific communication in English, a high degree of autonomy, a developed way of critical thinking, and documented experiences in working within international/European research projects.

Employment
Fixed-term employment 6 months, 100% at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
