In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell ? what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. The Institute is composed of the following five departments: ?The Department of Infectious Diseases ?The Department of Microbiology and Immunology ?The Department of Pathology and Genetics ?The Department of Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine ?The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology At present, the institute has about 360 employees and approximately 400 million SEK in total assets.
Beskrivning av arbetsuppgifter: The overall aim of the project is to increase our understanding of the molecular mechanisms for the initiation of neuroblasotm mediated by Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (ALK) receptor tyrosine kinase. The researcher will be engaged in projects focused on mechanisms that regulate initiation, growth and survival of ALK mediated neuroblastoma and their microenvironment. The researcher will use a broad range of approaches, such as genetics, cell biology and in vivo modeling to understand/reveal upstream/downstream targets of ALK both during novel developmental processes and disease. A specific target is ALK mediated activation of DUSP4 phosphatase. The researcher will be involved in mouse and cell culture models of neuroblastomaand to validate novel therapeutic strategies. Signaling pathways will be further investigated in these models with consideration of their pathological relevance.
Beskrivning av kvalifikationer: PhD exam in relevant subject. A high level of English communication and writing skills are an important requirement. Methods employed require knowledge in genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, and histology. Knowledge with mouse models as well as experience working with cell culture systems is a requirement. Laboratory knowledge and documented training regarding handling/working with mice and experience in xenografts is a requirement. Drug treatment of mice, biochemical assays, and cell culture model systems are a requirement.
