Sahlgrenska Academy, Institute of Biomedicine, Department Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Mucin Biologiy Groups are recruiting a scientist and laboratory manager. The groups use English as the main language of communication and a good knowledge of spoken and written English is an absolute requirement, as well as very good knowledge of Swedish. The Mucin Biology research groups currently comprise about 25 researchers with some 30 more in collaborative groups, see also www.medkem.gu.se/mucinbiology/

Beskrivning av arbetsuppgifter:
Characterization of proteins found in sputum from the lungs and the gut and in the bile and pancreatic cyst fluids where the key component of these is the mucins and related proteins that require specific analytical methodology. These methods include thermophoresis, HPLC, electrophoresis, proteomics, cell culture, DNA work, PCR, microscopy, etc. and knowledge to to evaluate the results. A special responsibility is to ensure that all employees maintain a high standard of all the methods that are used today and new ones that will be added. The position also means responsibility for data storage in a secure manner and includes the management of all computers (> 50), servers, long-term storage, and backup systems. The person will have a special responsibility for the administration and implementation of the grant Advanced ERC: The Role of Mucins and Mucus in the Diseases Cystic Fibrosis, Celiac Disease, and Ulcerative Colitis - MUC2GO until the end of the project 31/8 2021. Teaching of international post-doctors and graduate students in mucin biology methods. No teaching at undergraduate level. Administrative tasks associated with Advanced ERC requirements. Work management of some technical staff.

Beskrivning av kvalifikationer:
To qualify as a scientist is a PhD in medical biochemistry and mucin biology. Ph.D. in medical biochemistry and mucin biology with long experience of working with medical biochemical and mucin biology techniques. Special emphasis is on the special techniques necessary for work on mucins and their specific problems and modifications by glycans. Good knowledge of computer hardware and software. Of particular importance is to plan, prepare, manage and control their own and others' use of methodology. Emphasis is placed on the ability to interact with others in the group, and help others with methodological problems. Good administrative capacity. Fluency in both Swedish and English is a prerequisite.
