Do you want to be part of a groundbreaking initiative to build a Swedish quantum computer? We are looking for a Research Specialist to join our ambitious team at Chalmers University, to support our work on superconducting quantum systems.
About the Project
This position is funded by the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT), a 12-year, billion-SEK initiative launched in 2018. WACQT aims to establish Sweden as a leader in quantum technology, with the goal of building a functional quantum computer. At Chalmers, we are developing a quantum processor with 100 superconducting qubits, designed to tackle computational problems that are beyond the reach of conventional computers. These challenges span fields such as optimization, quantum chemistry, materials science, and machine learning.
Building a quantum computer requires a multidisciplinary effort involving experimental and theoretical physicists, electrical and microwave engineers, computer scientists, software engineers, and materials scientists. Our team at Chalmers is dedicated to developing superconducting quantum devices, control circuits, firmware, and methodologies necessary to realize this goal.
This work is conducted in close collaboration between experimentalists at the Quantum Technology Laboratory (QTL), theorists at the Applied Quantum Physics Laboratory (AQPL), and researchers at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Theorists in our team focus on modeling the hardware and developing application use cases for the quantum processor. Additionally, our team is a prominent partner in the internationally competitive OpenSuperQ collaborative project working to build a quantum computer within the EU Flagship on Quantum Technology.
About the Division
Our WACQT research team at Chalmers consists of approximately 100 members, including faculty, permanent research staff, postdoctoral researchers, PhD students, and undergraduate students. WACQT is committed to career development, diversity, and gender equality, supporting networking and mentoring initiatives.
Chalmers is home to the state-of-the-art MC2 Nanotechnology Laboratory cleanroom, the largest of its kind in Northern Europe. Our Quantum Technology Laboratory is also well-equipped with cryogenic and microwave electronic equipment, positioning us to lead in large-scale quantum processor development.
Role Overview
As a research Specialist, you will contribute to the development of methods for distributed quantum systems in quantum information processing, particularly involving superconducting circuits. Your work will include theoretical modeling and close collaboration with our experimental team. You will also contribute to modeling our WACQT multiqubit quantum processor, currently operating at the 25-qubit level.
The Research Specialist position is a research support role, focused on assisting research activities through method and/or instrument development.
