As an R&D Engineer we need you to strengthen our Power Technology Section by working to develop and use new technology in the distribution system towards better and more efficient control of power system components, Microgrid, understanding new components of grids, grid codes, and overview of the Grid. The competence is crucial for Vattenfall in many areas such as several upcoming Microgrids, electrification of different industries, as well as wind power projects. The position is needed for strategic development and business case analysis for new grid solutions such as dimensioning of energy storage, protection systems in isolated grids, and such grid's dynamic behavior and understanding of how bottlenecks can be avoided by using new technology.
Vattenfall R&D is responsible for conducting business driven technical development that creates value for the company and helps realizing our strategy. We work in agile teams close to the business of Vattenfall. The corporate R&D unit employs 120 people located in three different offices in Sweden and Denmark. The section Power Technology works with power system analysis needed to understand bottlenecks and dynamic behaviors in the electrical grid as well as optimization and control of the power system including both its loads and productions.

Your responsibilities as R&D Engineer
In this existing R&D Engineer role, you will have the opportunity to be a part of the Power Technology team that delivers major and often challenging assignments together with other R&D Engineers from other teams, experts from Vattenfall, and consultants. You do power system studies using different software depending on if you study bottlenecks, short-circuit levels, voltage stability, frequency stability, or very fast transients. Moreover, the position leads your own customer focused projects including communicating and developing customer relationships with both Business Areas Distribution and Wind.
The competence here needed is an Electrical Engineer with a power system profile. The competence is very important in the coming years for Vatten¬fall since the need to support Business Area Distribution and Wind with analysis and research around subjects such as; power system analysis, control, Microgrids, and reducing the costs for maintenance.
Your qualifications and personal skills as R&D Engineer
We see that the successful candidate holds a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Power Technology or similar. While it is not a must, it is advantageous that you have a minimum of three years of experience in the design and analysis of power systems for either distribution grids, energy industries, or wind power systems. Moreover, you have strong command in simulation tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, DigSilent Power Factory, and/or Matlab. Since you will be working in an international, diverse environment, fluency in English is a must, while a good command of Swedish is not a requirement but will be considered as a merit.
On the personal level, you are analytical, committed and self-driven with good communication and interpersonal skills. You are capable of leading teams and able to communicate clearly at all levels. You are able to develop rough ideas and ambitions into concrete and successful projects. As the work involves extensive interaction both internally and with external partners and suppliers, a good understanding of commercial aspects and an ability to establish and maintain relationships and networks is key. A passion for new technology we believe is a necessity for this role.
