Environmental Science is a broad interdisciplinary research subject that examines societal interactions with natural values, processes and resources. Environmental Science covers the study of ecological, climatic and other natural processes that affect ecosystems over space and time, human-induced environmental problems, and environmental policy, governance and sustainability challenges. Job description
This project-specific research position includes research in benthic microbial ecology of the Baltic Sea within the ongoing research project Response and recovery of benthic biodiversity and ecosystem functions to chemical pollution and eutrophication funded by the Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies. For more information see this link. The research focus is on investigating nutrient and carbon transformations, carbon sinks and microbial community structure and functions. Analyses of microbial nutrient transformations, benthic green house gas production and research writing are the main tasks. Some field work is included. The research will be carried out in cooperation with four researchers from Södertörn University, Stockholm University and Gothenburg University.
Qualifications
You are qualified for employment as a project-specific researcher in biogeochemistry and if you have a doctoral degree in environmental science, marine ecology, environmental microbiology or the equivalent research expertise. Particular skills are benthic biogeochemistry analyses, statistics and academic writing. Experience in microbial diversity analyses/metagenetics is an advantage, but not a requirement. You must also have the personal skills necessary to carry out the work independently and in collaboration.
Research expertise is demonstrated through scholarly publications in the relevant subject area, participation in research projects, research collaborations, and contributions to the development of the subject.
Grounds for assessment
The following grounds for assessment have been established for this position (in order of importance) and the skills must be documented:
• Research expertise in biogeochemistry and/or microbial diversity
• Scientific writing skills
• Expertise in statistical analyses

Employment
This position is limited to the project period 2022-06-13 to 2022-12-31 at 100% of full time. Start date as agreed.
