The Unit Planner plays an important part in each vehicle program (new top hat programs as well as smaller model year change programs and DMD/unit projects) by creating a master plan for each program in the concept phase. This master plan is key, as it shows which activities must be finished by which milestone in order to meet the Job 1 for a program.
There is a need to understand how complex the program is and how it is dependant on other programs in terms of sharing content & test-objects etc with other programs. It is also important for the Unit Planner to analyze lessons learnt from past programs, understanding why activities did not finish as planned in past projects and how the future plans can be improved in light of these findings.
This is a cross-functional role working closely with SA's, virtual integration specialists & test coordinators within SW&E.
The organization is in the startup of a transformation in ways of working, moving to more product oriented work streams in an agile manner. The Unit Planner will be a part of the transformation journey from a planning perspective.
Main responsibilities
• Perform analysis of each new vehicle program from SW&E perspective i.e.
o how big is the level of change for electrical sub-systems? (based on PMXU information from Concept leaders)
o how long lead-time is needed by SW&E to complete our deliverables = when must SW&E start with different activities in order to finish on Job 1 target for the vehicle (create project plan for Electrical Deliveries meeting the VPDS milestones)
• Support Concpet Leaders & PSS:s in understanding and doing the planning that is needed
• Identify risks of SW&E not being able to deliver on time & propose decision alternatives for the management team before [PC] gate.
• At [PC] gate, finalize the plan in LEQM and handover to Unit Coordinator to follow-up.
• After Job 1, perform lessons learnt analysis with Project leader & Unit Coordinator
Required qualifications
• Agile working methods
• Knowledge in VPDS process (VPDS = Volvo Product Development System)
• Experience with Planning tools used at Volvo Cars (MS Project, LEQM)
• Fluent in English & Swedish (written and spoken)
