The Department of Laboratory Medicine is one of six departments at Lund University's Faculty of Medicine. We conduct leading research, both broad and specialised, within the field of laboratory medicine, focusing on the onset of disease and how we can improve diagnostics and treatment for patients. Some of our strongest areas with world-class research deal with cancer, genetics and blood.
Our laboratory is seeking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to spearhead a project aimed at studying the posttranscriptional dynamics of gene expression in hematopoietic stem and cancer cells.
Work duties:
The candidate will be directly involved in the development new genetic system using human and m urine embryonic and hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). He/she will be using transgenic mice generated in our lab to study mRNA splicing and translation in defined hematopoietic cell population during tumorigenesis. The candidate is expected to employ high-throughput RNA-seq methods to delineate the function of specific components of the splicing machinery in human primary HSCs and in vivo. He/she will be responsible for the bioinformatics analysis and experimental validation of the sequencing results. He/she will be also involved in the writing and publication of results from these studies. Candidate is expected to take part in laboratory meetings and help with the supervision of master/undergraduate students.
Qualification requirements:
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.
Potential candidates should hold a PhD in the fields of cancer biology and molecular hematopoiesis, with a strong background in RNA and stem cell biology. Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team. Excellent verbal and written English communications skills are required.
Period of employment:
2017-11-09--2019-11-08.
Terms of employment:
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement "Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor" ("Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow") between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.
