We are searching for a researcher (PhD) with a particular interest in forest planning and modelling of sustainable forest management under a changing climate. Within the framework of a two-year postdoc project, and with the help of the decision support system Heureka and optimization methods, the successful applicant will investigate the conflicts and synergies that emerge when balancing forest management for different ecosystem services in a changed climate, e.g. timber production, forest recreational value, biological diversity, etc. Informed by these analyses, and in collaboration with representatives from the forest's various stakeholders, the post-doc will develop long-term management scenarios that prioritize a variety of sustainability dimensions and forest adaptations to a changing climate.
This postdoc position is part of a larger four-year research project, SPARC. In SPARC, researchers from several universities and subject areas collaborate with the aim of developing sustainable solutions that can reconcile conflicting demands on the forest landscape within a changing climate and shifting societal paradigms. You can find more information about SPARC at
www.slu.se/SPARC.Qualifiactions
You must have a PhD in forest planning, silviculture or ecology with a strong interest in modelling future forest landscapes. Experience from work with optimization methods, long-term modelling of the forest landscape and its ecosystem services as well as computer-based decision support systems in general, and the Heureka system in particular, is a merit. A high importance is placed on personal qualities such as analytical and problem-solving ability, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Excellent ability to express oneself in writing and orally in English is also a requirement.
As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree that is three years old at most.
