hela Sverige AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines for some of the world's most serious diseases. We're proud to have a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. We believe in the potential of our people and you'll develop beyond what you thought possible.
The new R&D BioPharmaceuticals organisation brings together research and development teams, from discovery through to late-stage development for Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolic (CVRM), Respiratory, Inflammatory and Autoimmune (RIA) therapy areas, and opportunistically for Microbial Sciences and Neuroscience.
You'll be in a global pharmaceutical environment but also exposed to strong rigorous academic science. For example, every postdoc has an external academic mentor to ensure we are working and publishing at the highest level
in a field. What's more, you'll have the support of a leading academic advisor, who'll provide you with the guidance and knowledge you need to develop your career.
In the current role you will have an excellent opportunity to broaden your skills in both synthetic organic chemistry and organometallic chemistry, in a creative drug discovery scientific environment. The successful applicant will be guided and coached by scientists at AstraZeneca Gothenburg, Sweden, and will have the opportunity to collaborate and be mentored by Prof. Lutz Ackermann, at the University of Göttingen, Germany (
http://www.ackermann.chemie.uni-goettingen.de/). It is therefore a unique opportunity to strengthen your metal catalysis skills at the interface between small molecule synthesis and medicinal chemistry, in an industrial setting.
The Postdoctoral fellow will be based within the Early Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolism Medicinal Chemistry department in Gothenburg/Sweden. In addition, the successful candidate will benefit from working within the "Excellence in synthesis/automation team", a vibrant and multicultural group focused on integrating chemical technology and automation applying it to challenging strategic medicinal chemistry tasks.
* Development of synthetic methodologies/new catalytic systems useful in LSF
* Develop synthetic methodologies for C-H activation in batch, flow and high-throughput.
* Application of the prepared building blocks and generation a toolbox of structurally novel elements to be used in medicinal chemistry.
* Work collaboratively with scientists from across multiple disciplines both internally and externally with the capacity to manage and perform research independently.
* Communicate results both within AstraZeneca via global working groups and externally at scientific meetings and through high impact publications.
Education and Experience Required;
Essential:
* A PhD in synthetic organic chemistry and/or medicinal chemistry
* Solid background in classic organic chemistry, highly-rigorous inert techniques, purification and structural elucidation techniques.
* An in-depth knowledge and understanding of late stage functionalization reactions, focused on C-H activation catalysis.
* Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* An outstanding track record of research, as evidenced by high impact publications in peer reviewed journals, patents and/ or talks at scientific meetings.
Desirable:
* Expertise in late stage functionalization techniques and/or inorganic synthesis.
* Knowledge and hands-on experience of organometallic chemistry an advantage, but not necessary.
* Proven track record of problem solving and delivery in organic chemistry/ medicinal chemistry.
