We are recruiting a Post-doc to join the large interdisciplinary project ?A state of the art modeling and decision support system for mitigating the effects of intensified forest production and climate change on water quality (ForWater)?. The main objective of the ForWater program is to achieve a scientifically based assessment of water quality under pressures from climate change and forest management. The ForWater program will be based on an interdisciplinary approach where nutrients, metals, base cations, persistent organic pollutants and dissolved organic carbon will be studied using a common field-based research platform and results from long-term monitoring and research in different parts of Sweden. The post-doc will collaborate with the other researchers in ForWater and have the opportunity to engage with scientists in Future Forests (www.futureforests.se), CLEO (www.cleoresearch.se) and the Color of Water (COW,
http://www.geo.uu.se/cow/) .
The position will be based at the department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment, SLU, Uppsala, Sweden. The Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment has a unique national responsibility for assessing the condition of Swedish surface waters with respect to both water chemistry and the aquatic biota. This involves identifying human influence on aquatic ecosystems, as well as distinguishing those influences from natural variability. The mission is pursued through a comprehensive program of monitoring, research and development, as well as teaching. The breadth of expertise among the 90 members of the department (geochemical/biological, aquatic/terrestrial) combined with a strong international network, is an important strength. The department is located on SLU?s rural Ultuna campus, 15 minutes by bike from the medieval city of Uppsala, and just over an hour from Stockholm. For more info see:

Duties: This Post-doc position will focus on intensive studies of forestry and climate change effects on catchment processes. Research questions: How will the biogeochemistry of N, DOC, Hg and POPs in different landscape components be affected by forestry and climate change? How applicable are the governing biogeochemical mechanisms found in northern Sweden in other geographical regions? How will differences in climate and forest production between study sites translate into variability in BC, N, DOC, Hg and POPs?
Qualifications: Prerequisites for the position include a PhD in a field relevant to soil science, water chemistry, forestry, hydrology or environmental sciences. Skills in GIS programs or biogeochemical modelling are considered a merit.
