Our campus constitutes an inspiring environment for everyone that studies and works here. We wish to co-operate with companies and organisations throughout the Umeå region and all over the world.
Post-doc position in Computer-Aided Molecular Design
The Department of Chemistry is looking for a post doctoral fellow for molecular modelling in drug design related projects (one year with a possibility for a one year extension). The post-doc will be part of the modelling group of Anna Linusson.
The research activities at the Department of Chemistry have a strong focus on Biological Chemistry. One of the major directions is focusing on understanding the underlying mechanisms of diseases by the use of computational tools like molecular modelling and chemometrics in combination with organic synthesis of small molecules followed by examination in biological model systems. The current recruitment is intended to intensify the efforts to elucidate the molecular interactions of Class II MHC Aq/Glycopeptide/T-Cell Receptor complexes associated with collagen-induced arthritis. The person will evaluate available experimental data using computational tools like QSAR modeling, docking, molecular dynamic simulations, binding affinity predictions and comparative modeling. The results will be followed up by peptide synthesis and biological evaluation. The project will be performed in collaboration with Prof. Jan Kihlberg (AstraZeneca R&D Mölndal and Umeå University).
We are looking for a candidate with a Ph.D. in chemistry/ biophysics/ biology. The person must have hands on experience in computational chemistry including ligand- and structure-based design. An understanding and working knowledge of packages such as Amber, GRID, GOLD, Simca, MOE, OpenEye and Schrödinger is preferred. Experiences with organic synthesis (peptide synthesis) and/or kinetic studies are a merit. Good communication skills in written and spoken English are also required.
For more information about the position, please contact Anna Linusson, phone: +46-(0)90-786 68 90, e-mail:
